The Photograph director Stella Meghie is directing episodes of Marvel’s Wonder Man series alongside Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest.
Marvel’s Wonder Man series will bring The Photograph director Stella Meghie into the fold. Meghie is directing multiple upcoming series episodes starring Yahya Abdul Mateen II (Aquaman, Candyman), with Destin Daniel Creton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, American Born Chinese) and Andrew Guest helming several episodes as well. Guest also acts as the head writer of Wonder Man, with Cretton executive producing.
Meghie is busy developing Disney’s live-action Tiana series for Disney+. The story centers around the iconic Disney character The Princess & the Frog. Meghie is an executive producer on Tiana, making her available to get behind the camera for Wonder Man.
Wonder Man is one of Marvel’s oldest characters, dating back to 1964 in the pages of Avengers #9. He started his comic book career in comic books as a villain, but was reintroduced to comics as a hero in late 1970s. Wonder Man is actually Simon Williams, and he was one of the founding members of the West Coast Avengers in Los Angeles. Williams was an actor and stuntman. He wore a turtleneck, red jacket and sunglasses. Wonder Man is strongly related to Marvel characters Vision/Scarlet Witch. They had many adventures together, with Wonder Man and Vision seeing each other as brothers in combat. After Vision was defeated, the villain-turned hero developed strong feelings for Wanda. Marvel has yet to decide if Mateen II will be introduced as a potential romantic interest for Wanda. However, now that Marvel is working on Vision Quest, a series featuring Paul Bettany’s Vision, we could see this complicated love triangle play out.
Previously, Marvel revealed Sir Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery is returning in the Wonder Man series. It is impossible to guess how Slatery might appear in Marvel’s WonderMan series. Acting is one way to introduce Slattery. Reports indicate that Wonder Man intends to be a Hollywood satire, giving Slattery the perfect angle to appear in the series.
Marvel could take Wonder Man in several directions, given that he’s a relatively unknown character. They will either treat him as a new hero or place him alongside Wanda following the events of Doctor Strokes in the Multiverse of Madness. Could it be Wonder Man who eventually frees Wanda from her self-inflicted incarceration?
I’m excited to learn more about Marvel’s Wonder Man series. Feige and co. have promised to take the MCU in bold directions, as the Multiverse Saga goes on. WonderMan will be a wildcard among many trick cards.
