The first The Evil Dead marked the feature directorial début of future A-list director Sam Raimi, and starred Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams, the franchise hero. The film’s premiere screening was not until 1981, even though principal photography was completed by the end of 1979. The film was distributed in 1983. Raimi then followed up with Evil dead II in 1988 and Army Of Darknessin 1992. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert chose to support an Evil dead remake that was released in 2013 instead of New Line Cinema’s interest in making Freddy Vs. Jason vs. Ash. Campbell didn’t appear in the film, but he did battle evil forces during three seasons of TV series Ash Vs. Evil Dead. And now that Campbell is retired from playing the role of Ash on screen, we’ve got the Ash-less Evil Dead Rise.
