Warner Bros. Discovery plans to drop the “HBO” from HBO Max, saying the “HBO” sends a mixed signal to poetential subscribers.
Warner Bros. Discovery may use a questionable tactic in order to increase its subscriber numbers for HBO Max’s digital streaming service. According to The Wrap, the studio could drop the “HBO” from HBO Max, saying “the HBO name turns off many potential subscribers.” I have to tell you. I have read WBD’s reasons several times and am still trying to figure out if I’m reading what they’re saying. The HBO brand is synonymous for high-end entertainment. The studio is known for creating high-end entertainment experiences that are lavishly funded and feature top-notch special effects and casting. If that’s true, why would you want to get rid of that reputation? Are you a liar? HBO is responsible Game of Thrones and The Last of Us and The Sopranos and Six feet Under10, among other outstanding programs that push other studios to improve their game. Warner Bros. has rebranded. Discovery wanted to rebrand and merge HBO Max with Discovery+. The new name for the streaming service would be “Max”, though reports claim that the phrase “BEAM”, is also being considered. This is an internal matter. I wouldn’t count on that being the new name of the service.
Bloomberg says the streamer will continue to cost $15-$16 per month for the ad-free version and as much as $20 a month for a new tier with better video quality and high-end features. A $10 per month ad-oriented version of the streamer will also be available. The studio will add thousands of unscripted reality titles to Discovery at no additional cost.
