The Mandalorian Season 3 Eggs


O ver on Disney+, The Mandalorian Season 3 has just wrapped up. Din and Grogu were once again seen embarking on numerous adventures in the Star War universe. This time, they set out to reunite all Mandalorians who had split into various factions and return them to Mandalore. As usual, this season was jam-packed with all sorts of references and Mandalorian Easter Eggs. What did you miss?

P urrgil Space Whales

W hen Din jumps to hyperspace Grogu gets to see what it looks like out in space during travel. We can see shadows of what appears to be animals in the light and clouds of hyperspace travel. Purrgil is the name of these creatures. These creatures are similar to space whales, but they can also travel through hyperspace. This is the first time they have appeared in live-action, but the Purrgil have actually shown up before in an episode of Star Wars: Rebels named The Call.

R 5-D4

T he astromech droid R5-D4 once again makes an appearance in Peli Motto’s workshop. Din is given him by Peli Motto to use on Mandalore’s surface. This time, R5-D4 gets to go on its own adventure. It appeared before in A New Hope. Uncle Owen almost purchased this droid, but it malfunctioned and he ended up with R2-D2. In an old Star Wars anthology titled From a Certain Point Of View it was stated that this droid purposefully malfunctioned because it knew R2-D2 would have to deliver the message to Obi Wan Kenobi. The appearance of R5-D4 has been such a great Mandalorian easter egg ever since his first appearance on the show.

B D Unit

P eli Motto’s workshop also shows another returning droid from the Star Wars universe. Peli had a BD-unit that she uses to help her around the shop. This is a reference to the canon video game Star War Jedi: Fallen Order. This is the first time this type of droid has been shown in the Star Wars franchise. The Clone Wars

. A large part of season seven told the story of the Siege of Mandalore. Darth Maul had just returned and there was an invasion by Republic forces to remove him. He was the ruler of Mandalore. This is a funny reference to Admiral Ackbar in Return Of The Jedi. He famously declared, “It’s a Trap,” when the Rebels were ambushed.

J edi master Kelleran Beq

W e have the first appearance of Jedi Master Kelleran beq in the universe. When Order 66 was implemented, everyone speculated about which Jedi helped Grocu escape the Jedi temple. Many believed it would be Mace Windu, but it turned out to be Kelleran Beq. The character may not be familiar to some, but it was created by Lucasfilm as the host of an actual game show. Star War: Jedi Temple Challenge, the Jedi Master helped guide children through all the aspects of being a Jedi. Here he makes his final appearance, helping this padawan escape. Ahmed Best, who is most likely known to fans as Jar Jar Binks’ voice, also plays him. This is a deep-cut Mandalorian easter egg, but it’s fun to see them incorporating such characters into the actual canon of Star Wars.

Z eb Orrelios

A nother character from Star Wars: Rebels makes their first live-action appearance this season. Zeb Orrelios appears in a scene involving Carson Teva. It’s only a short scene, but it confirms that Zeb is now a member of the New Republic’s defense fleet. This seems to point at more Rebels characters showing up in the upcoming Ahsoka show. With numerous discussions of Admiral Thrawn reappearing, it seems the groundwork is being set for quite a bit of Rebel’s lore being involved with upcoming Star Wars properties.

B ulloch Canyon

D in helps defeat the pirates on Nevarro, and his good friend Greef Karga offers him a piece of land for his help. He wants Din to be the new Marshall in their town. Din declines, but Greef insists that it’s there for him. He says it’s a place called Bullcoh Canyon. This is a reference Jeremy Bulloch, who was the actor who played Boba Fett. The first Mandalorian of the Star War franchise. They go to the crime scene and see some security droids marking it. Brendol is making his first live-action debut in this season. He first appeared in Junior Novel
