Robert McCall, played by Denzel Washington, has had a long and interesting life. He has fought crime and stomped gangsters under Mario’s boot. Before battling Russian thugs and rogue CIA Agents in 2018’s The Equalizer 2
he fought other villains. For fans who want to see a young McCall in action, director Antoine Fuqua thinks it could happen, and technology could be the key to making it all possible.
Speaking with NME, Fuqua said he’s considered de-aging Washington for an Equalizer origin story. In recent years, we’ve seen more actors de-age. The latest example was for a long sequence in James Mangold’s Indiana Joss and the Dial of Destiny. De-aging tech used to look pretty rough, but AI programs have advanced in recent years, providing filmmakers with access to jaw-dropping tools and effects.“Especially now with the new technology and the AI and all of that kind of stuff… Is there a story to be told about how
became this person — the younger version?” Fuqua told NME. “I’ve talked to Richard Wenk a lot.”That being said, Fuqua still hasn’t run the idea by Denzel Washington who will ultimately wear the face-capture tech. Fuqua said, “It’s so fresh and innovative.” “I’m still watching the
. I’ve seen Harrison Ford’s movie and I know that there are other movies coming out… I’m hearing that the technology is improving and improving. So I’m kind of watching it to see where it goes.”[McCall]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHpGNyoZ_N0It’s interesting to hear Fuqua contemplating an Equalizer origin story after saying the third installment could be the final bow for himself and Washington. Speaking with Empire[Equalizer series screenwriter] about the threequel earlier this month, Fuqua said,
“This is it. Robert McCall the working-man’s hero has to leave it at some point. Someone else will have to take up the ball at some point and serve justice. He has served his justice. He’s in an unfamiliar place, trying to find a new home, a new place in the world. That’s really what’s important.”Do you think The Equalizer 3 is the final curtain call for Fuqua and Washington?
