A24 is planning a July wide release for the Australian horror movie Talk to Me, which counts Steven Spielberg and Jordan Peele among its fans

After racking up a following of over 6 million subscribers on their YouTube channel RackaRacka, Australian brothers Danny and Michael Philippou have made their feature directorial debut with the horror film Talk to Me, which was shown at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. (You can read our review at THIS LINK. Talk To Me was so well received by festival audiences (it has been claimed that even Jordan Peele and Steven Spielberg have seen and loved the film), there was a bidding war for the distribution rights. A24 was the winner of the bidding war. They beat out competition from studios such as Universal. Deadline reports that A24 is planning to give Talk to Me a wide release on July 28th.

That happens to be the same day Disney’s Haunted Mansion will be reaching theatres.

Talk to Me has the following synopsis: When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.

The film stars Sophia Wilde, Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Djanji, and Zoe Terakes. The movie currently has a 98% Fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating. Fangoria has described it as “an absolute blast”, and our friends at Bloody Disgusting say it’s “an intense, nightmarish horror movie that’ll leave you breathless.”
