Scream VI Box Office: Strong Thursday previews point towards a record opening

Date:

Scream 6 enjoyed a strong opening night at box office, which points towards a franchise-best weekend for the series.

I’ve said this once and I’ll repeat it again: in an era when there are no certain things at the box-office, horror can always be relied on to put butts into seats. For evidence of this, look at the box office receipts for Barbarian, The Black Phone, Smile, M3GAN, and now, Scream VI. After a strong $5.7million in previews on Thursday night, the series is set for a record-breaking opening weekend. According to Deadline (and our box office predictions), the movie will open to $35-40million, which would be a record for a franchise. The 2000 divisive Scream310 opened to $34.7 million. Last year’s Scream had a strong $30 million opening and likely would have done much better had we hadn’t been in the middle of the Omicron surge (here in Montreal theaters were closed – I only finally saw the film on an airplane).

The Adam Driver actioner 65 had a less impressive opening night, only grossing $1.225 million, which means it may not crack single digits this weekend. The Creed II10 should take second place at the box-office. It made $3 million yesterday, and has already crossed $74 million domestically. It is expected to break $100 million this weekend. Cocaine bear will likely surpass the $50 million mark this weekend, while Ant Man and the Wasp Quantumania inch closer to what should be around $200 million.

It’s worth mentioning that ScreamVI10 is still a great movie, despite being the sixth installment in a franchise. Let us know in the comments!

I think my hometown of Montreal was a poor substitute for New York. Let us know in the comments!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVCz6sM7DL4
