Lesley-Ann Brandt has joined Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira in the Walking Dead spin-off mini-series Rick & Michonne
When Andrew Lincoln’s character Rick Grimes rode out of the AMC series The Walking Dead on a helicopter in season 9, the plan was that we’d see the character again in a trilogy of feature films. Since then, the plan has changed to a miniseries that will reunite Rick and his love Michonne, played in part by Danai Gurra. The Rick & Michonne mini-series is now filming in New Jersey, and Deadline has announced the first bit of casting for it: Lincoln and Gurira are being joined by Lesley-Ann Brandt, who may be best known for playing the character Mazikeen on 93 episodes of the popular TV series Lucifer.
On The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne, Brandt will be playing a character named Pearl Thorne.
Gurira co-created the Rick & Michonne mini-series and is working on the show as a writer. The show will consist of six episodes and tells the story of a “epic relationship between two characters who have been changed by a changing world. They are kept apart by distance. An unstoppable power. They are reincarnated as the ghosts of their former selves. Rick and Michonne are thrust into another world. It is built on a battle against the dead… And eventually, a fight against the living. Can they find their way back together and discover who they are in a new place and situation? Are they lovers? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?“
Gurira is working on the Rick & Michonne mini-series with Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of the Walking Dead Universe. Self spoke to Gimple about their collaboration. He said that he challenged Self, and that he challenged her. And neither of them let the other off the hook. I am more of a character actor in life than Danai. It’s a good combination when we’re working, pitching, or just dealing with life stuff. Gimple said that Gurira is “incredibly creatively ambitious” and that she wants to do “new, signature work –stuff that’s not out there currently.” She isn’t looking to settle. It’s the best creative energy to be around.”[Danai]The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne
