Reeves and Chad Stahelski are calling for a Best Stunts Oscar.
As Oscars predictions come in, one category will not be on the ballet. The Academy Awards are being combined with some categories that have been axed, but there is a greater call to honor the art of stunts. John Wick star Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski are calling for a Best Stunts Oscar.As per IGN:
John Wick director Chad Stahelski said, “Honestly, I’ve been around that for my twenty-something-year career as a wives’ tale of why stunts aren’ts not in the Oscars. The talk has never been held This is a rather solemn statement but Stahelski believes that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences could be turned around with the right amount of support. “I don’t think there’s anybody in the Academy or anybody outside the Academy that wouldn’t agree we’re one of the main nine departments….So has any journalist or stunt person ever walked up to the President of the Academy or a member of the Academy and go, ‘Why don’t stunts ?'”Keanu Reeves, who has obviously been in a lot of stunt-oriented movies (certainly 1999’s The Matrix would have been a viable winner), has some concerns as well.
