The follow-up adventure of Benoit Blanc and a gang of zany characters can now be watched with a Rian Johnson commentary on Netflix.
Netflix had a major hit on their hands with Rian Johnson’s follow-up to Knives Out, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiering last December. It was so popular that it even gangbusted in a theater preview a month before. Rian Johnson even stated that he’s focusing on his next project, the third installment in the Knives OUT10 series.
Now Netflix has made the film available with the director’s commentary. ScreenRant reports that Netflix has made the film available with the director’s commentary. The tweet consisted of a single line from Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc, “I keep returning, in my mind, to the Glass Onion…“ and accompanying it with a new poster for the film that advertises the commentary from Rian Johnson. This isn’t the first time the famed streaming platform has featured an additional audio track for director’s commentary, however none of the previous films were given explicit attention and announcement. Netflix is keeping its eyes on the future and appears to be using Glass Onion
10 as a guineapig for newer distribution methods. Glass Onion was given a surprise preview engagement for one week in November to both build hype and make it eligible for awards consideration. The theater reception was so positive that Johnson was disappointed Netflix refused to bend their schedule plans to include just one more week for people to see it as a real cinema experience. The Agatha Christie-inspired film is still a hit with the director. Johnson stated to Empire, that he was going straight to the third installment because it was the most exciting thing to him right now. It’s worked really well for me. I feel like I have to be making every movie because I can’t think of anything else. Because I can’t think of another story, I’m jumping into Benoit Blanc’s next movie. Although I have a lot of ideas, it isn’t all in focus yet. It’s exciting and very different to this one. That’s what I’m excited about.”
